Letters - The Poet's Cut

there were these letters…

each bigger than I
filling my structure
capital tease crossing my eyes

they pushed their way
bending corners into my shape
building surfeit pressure
until they found their escape

with an opening of mind
and the drop of my jaw
like a paper doll chain
letters became words in fall

my soul poured out
there to the white blank stage
forming a built utterance
turning me to the next page

there were these letters...

The Poet’s Cut

This piece was originally published on July 3, 2012 and speaks to the source my poetry often flows. Since I began utilizing poetry as a frequent outlet of my expression in 2011 I have had a fascination with the impromptu, streaming way each poem brings itself into my awareness. The image I’ve paired today is a self-portrait drawn in 2015 that I felt captured the poem in an artful way.
